In the last decade, there has been a greater push to make sure students are actually learning in classrooms. This has followed years of low learning levels observed among students. The quality of education imparted (including facilities in classrooms), and the presence of qualified teachers have become important criteria.
Teacher vacancies are the highest in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Kerala, Rajasthan, and Karnataka are ranked as the top 3 best performing states on the provision of quality education in schools.
Child Protection Services
Child and adolescent protection
A flagship programme of the Union government, the scheme aims to provide care and rehabilitation services to children who are exploited, abandoned, abused or separated from their families. It also protects those in conflict with the law as defined under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. In Budget 2020-21, the scheme was allocated Rs 1,500 crore.
Money allocated to the scheme increased by 11% between 2019-20 and 2020-21. The scheme accounts for 5% of the implementing ministry's budget (Ministry of Women and Child Development).
