Pradhan Mantri KIsan SAmman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)

Income support to farmers

Through the scheme, small and marginal farmers can get up to Rs 6,000 per year for their financial needs such as buying crops. PM Kisan is the largest scheme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW). 

Over 9 crore farmers enrolled in the scheme as on 30 November 2019. 

Money allocated to the scheme increased by more than three times between 2018-19 and 2019-20. This year, the government allocated Rs 75,000 crore for the scheme.

However, for a farmer enrolled in the scheme, the release of funds has been low, and depends on the state they are in.

81% of farmers registered till March 2018 had received all three installments till 30 November 2019.

98% of farmers registered in 2018-19 in Tripura had received all three installments.

Only 16% received the installments in Arunachal Pradesh.

Rural Livelihoods

Among the world's largest rural livelihood programmes, MGNREGS aims to provide at least 100 days of employment to adults of every rural household that demands work, and are ready to do unskilled work. This is guaranteed under the the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005.

Even as 5.3 crore households were provided work, only 10 per cent of households were provided 100 days of work in 2018-2019.
